Do you know how easy it is for some abusers to track their victim’s every move, to monitor everything they do on a computer, in their cars, or online? Perpetrators of stalking and domestic violence are often ahead of the curve on the use of technology and are using it to facilitate abuse and harm against survivors. Understanding how technology is misused is crucial to both supporting victims and holding offenders accountable.
Drawing from survivor experiences and through videos and demonstrations, this training will illustrate the safety risks of phone, GPS, camera, and social media especially in cases of stalking and when survivors are considering to relocate. Presenters will discuss the ways technology is misused to stalk, abuse, or harass survivors; how service providers can help victims assess the abuse that’s happening strategize their privacy and safety needs when mobile; and offer suggestions on how to document or investigate technology-facilitated abuse while exploring ways survivors can prioritize their privacy and safety.
