This webinar explores types of violence involving intimate partners, the characteristics of the violence and the intent and effect of the violence used. Properly categorizing violence ensures we respond as a community with an informed lens and don't treat all violence as battering. Failure to properly categorize violence endangers victims and results in inappropriate responses by the criminal justice system and support structures including advocacy.
We will discuss and explore methods to categorize violence appropriately and bring this to light for the responding community. Doing so gives victims and survivors voice and guides appropriate support. Categorizing violence also ensures those who violate the law's behaviors are addressed. One size doesn't fit all.
