Increasing our Capacity to Serve Survivors with Disabilities

08/21/2017 - 3:00pm to 4:30pm

People with Disabilities do experience violence at higher rates and for longer durations than people without disabilities. One of the significant reasons for this is that survivors with disabilities are often more socially isolated and when they do make an outcry, they are likely to experience barriers to the traditional ways of achieving safety and supports. This session will focus on some of the unique dynamics that occur when we are working at the intersection of violence against women and disability, how those unique dynamics impact service delivery, and strategies that can be used to remove those barriers.
