Healthy Advocate Initiative
It’s that time of year again!
Domestic violence advocates play a significant role in supporting survivors in sustaining positive change in their lives, often at the cost of the advocates’ own self-care. As advocates we frequently talk about self-care, but what does that look like for us? The balance between work, family and personal life often takes up all of our time. FCADV wants to shine the light on how essential it is to take a little time for ourselves in an eight-week multifaceted initiative.
FCADV is excited to once again engage in the Healthy Advocate Initiative (HAI)!
Get Started
Healthy Advocate Challenge
In this effort to support healthy advocates, FCADV will host the eight week Challenge for Change this spring. From April 22nd through June 16th, we encourage you to do something positive for your health whether it is beginning or enhancing an exercise, program, choosing healthy meals and snacks, quitting smoking, improving financial health, or taking 30 minutes a day for yourself.
Use the HAI tracking log your center will receive by mail in April to record your daily activities towards self care from April 22nd to June 16th. Following the Initiative you will be instructed on how to submit your activities to FCADV.
The certified domestic violence center with the highest participation rate will receive up to five (5) scholarships to the 2013 FCADV Biennial Statewide Training Institute or 2013 Rural Statewide Training Institute.* The center will also be recognized on the FCADV webpage and Facebook page.

*Participation rates are based on center staff size and hours of activity submitted to FCADV following the eight-week Healthy Advocate Challenge. Five (5) scholarships will be awarded to the center with the highest participation rate. Scholarship amount will be up to and no more than $200. Scholarship must be used for travel to the 2013 FCADV Biennial Statewide Training Institute or the 2013 Rural Statewide Training Institute. Event attendee must travel more than fifty (50) miles to use this scholarship award.
Webinars
Throughout the Initiative, Elaine Whitefeather and Robin Basinger will lead webinars to provide tools to building and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and motivate advocates in the Challenge statewide. These webinars will supplement rather than replicate the information presented at the Healthy Advocate Institute on April 26. This venue stands to network Initiative participants and serve as a Q&A forum. See dates below.
Inspire Others
FCADV will be blogging throughout the 6 weeks on: The Caffeine Chronicles!! We'll be blogging weekly, so check back soon for the next blog post. Check out the blogs from the 2011 Healthy Advocate Initiative. If you would like to submit a blog post, contact FCADV at mhta@fcadv.org.
Follow us on Facebook to keep up with Healthy Advocate Initiative events and activities. Tell us how you have incorporated self-care strategies into your routine or struggles you face in doing so. We want to hear from you!
